Derrubada de veto fortalece clubes na Lei do Esporte

Among the more than 50 presidential vetoes overturned by the National Congress last Thursday (9/5), one stood out for dealing with Article 15 of the General Sports Law (Law No. 14,597, of June 14, 2023).
This article establishes the responsibilities of the three levels of government in creating general norms, coordinating and implementing actions and programs related to sports.
With the veto overturned, it is now defined in law for the first time that the actions of governmental entities in the sports field must involve the “cooperation of Clubs and sports associations of each sport.”
The CBC and Fenaclubes celebrate the return to the original wording of the law, confirming the relevance of Clubs as fundamental entities in promoting and developing sports in Brazil.
This decision of Congress – greatly influenced by the sensitivity and sharp vision of the Minister of Sport, André “Fufuca” – recognizes that Clubs not only provide material and institutional support, but are also key players in the formation and implementation of public sports policies.
